Hi again, darlings, pour yourself a glass of wine—or maybe a whiskey if you’re feeling bold—because I just finished Buck Wild by Lauren Landish, and I am still riding the adrenaline high. This book is STUNNING, and trust me, even if you think you know bull-riding romance, even if you’ve devoured every small-town cowboy book under the sun, this one will grab you and not let go.

Now, I’m no stranger to cowboy romance, or even bullfighter romance, but even this one felt a little different. There’s something about James Bennett and the way Lauren Landish writes him that makes the familiar bull-riding hero feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly magnetic. James lives for those eight seconds of exhilaration in the arena, and off it, he’s just as restless, cocky, and confident—but there’s also depth. He’s loyal to his family, proud of his roots, and surprisingly tender once you get past the bravado.

Enter Sophie Stone, veterinary-in-training, smart, feisty, and stubborn enough to stand her ground against James Bennett—and oh, how she does. Sophie isn’t just a romantic foil; she’s brave, clever, and grounded, making her the perfect match for James’s impulsive charm. She’s playful, witty, and fiery, but also respectful, warm, and genuinely loving toward James’s family—which, honestly, made me fall in love with this book even more.

Little touches, like how she calls James’s mother “Mama”, how she genuinely listens to his siblings, and how she participates in family traditions with sincerity and grace, make her feel like a true part of James’s world. These aren’t just surface gestures; they show character, heart, and emotional intelligence, and they make the romance feel earned. Sophie doesn’t just fall for James—she honors the life and family that shaped him, and that makes her love feel richer and deeper.

And let’s talk about the tension. The chemistry between James and Sophie is electric, yes, but it’s also layered. Every touch, every glance, every teasing word is charged with both desire and challenge. Sophie is supposed to stay professional, focused on her career, and “not get involved,” yet James’s cocky charm, teasing, and irresistible presence make that nearly impossible. Every time they interact, it’s a dance of push and pull: playful, intense, sometimes frustrating, always hot.

The small-town, rodeo-life backdrop only enhances the story. You smell the leather, the hay, the dust kicked up by hooves in the arena; you feel the heat of the summer sun; you hear the roar of the crowd. And against that backdrop, Sophie and James’s connection feels both grounded and fiery. They’re not just attracted to each other physically; they’re challenged, inspired, and softened by one another. And the way Sophie navigates James’s family life—with respect, warmth, and humor—adds heart and emotional depth that goes beyond the romance itself.

Lauren Landish also does a fantastic job balancing the “forbidden” edge. Sophie is meant to maintain boundaries, yet she can’t resist the pull toward James. That tension between duty and desire, respect and temptation, makes every interaction crackle with heat. And when James finally lets himself be vulnerable, not just with Sophie but in front of his family, the payoff is electric. You feel their love on multiple levels—passion, trust, mutual respect, and the quiet intimacy of belonging.

Even for someone who’s read plenty of cowboy and bull-riding romances, Buck Wild feels fresh, exciting, and heart-melting. James is cocky but loyal, Sophie is fiery yet warm, and together they spark in all the right ways. By the last page, I was laughing, swooning, and sighing, completely immersed in their story and the little details—like how Sophie fits so beautifully into James’s family—that make it unforgettable.
