Okay, ladies…listen up. Pour yourself a big glass of wine, because I have to tell you about the book that completely ruined me…in the best possible way. I’m talking To Claim Her Highlander by Catriona Anniston.

Five out of five stars? Absolutely. Did it make me feel feelings I didn’t even know were possible while reading a book? Oh yes. Did I literally dream I was living in the Highlands with a laird after finishing it? Also yes. Let’s unpack this.

So first, we meet Christina. Modern, smart, witty, with a tongue sharper than my wine glass after I’ve had one too many sips. She’s plucked out of her modern life and thrown into the 17th-century Highlands, which is scary, breathtaking, and…full of one very dangerously attractive Scottish laird named Hector Caldwell.

Hector. Ladies, Hector. He is everything you want in a Highlander: brooding, commanding, and slightly impossible to resist. But here’s the kicker—he’s also emotionally complicated, honorable, duty-bound, and just a little tortured. And the way he speaks? Oh my God.

“Ye’ve bewitched me, Chrissie. And it vexes me. Deeply.”

Do you hear that? Because when I read it, my knees went weak. I may have literally whispered, “Yes, say more, you brooding man!” I felt my stomach do flips, my cheeks flush, and I may have sipped wine too fast because I was hot and bothered just reading it. The way Hector talks to Christina is so intense, so fiery, and so tender all at once; it literally gave me butterflies in a way that no contemporary romance has in months.

And here’s where I have to spill some real-life confessions: I finished this book, turned off my bedside lamp, and went to sleep thinking about Hector. And then I had a dream. Not a normal dream. Oh no. In my dream, I woke up in Outlander time, in the Highlands, with mist curling over the hills, peat smoke in the air, and yes…Hector Caldwell standing there like he just walked out of the pages into my life. I was living his world! I had a little cottage, a fire roaring, and somehow—somehow—I was entangled in this Highlander’s life. I felt the tension, the longing, the thrill of danger, and, yes…all the swoon-worthy heat of every single scene. I woke up sighing, clutching my pillow like it was Hector, and thinking, “I need a moment. I need another glass of wine.”

What’s so magical about this story is that it’s not just lust or swoons. Christina isn’t a damsel—she’s fiery, independent, and challenges Hector in ways that make him unravel deliciously. Hector isn’t a flat “tall dark and handsome” type—he’s real, conflicted, and oh-so-human. Their chemistry builds slowly, teasingly, with a simmering tension that makes every word, every look, every touch feel like it’s burning straight through the pages into your chest.

And can we talk about the Highlands? Ladies, the setting is gorgeous. Rugged hills, roaring rivers, misty mornings—Catriona Anniston makes you feel it all. The danger, the stakes, the loyalty, the historical details—it all comes together to make you live in this story. I laughed, I swooned, I clutched my wine, and I even got a little teary at some moments because the emotional depth hits just as hard as the steamy romance.

Bottom line? To Claim Her Highlander made me dream, made me feel butterflies and swoons, and yes—it made me wish I could actually live in the Highlands with a laird like Hector Caldwell. If you want a story that’s witty, heart-stopping, emotionally deep, and incredibly sexy, this is your next read. I promise—it will ruin your life in the most delightful way. Five glasses of wine out of five, and I may need a support group to recover from this level of swoon.

Ladies, grab your wine, your blanket, and your biggest book-loving heart—because this Highlander will steal all of it.
